What I Knew
Earlier this year my biology class had an assignment to write about a career from University of Florida’s science magazine. Now, I’m not a big fan of laboratory or medical science so this assignment wasn’t to appealing to me, but, to my surprise, the cover story was about John Kaplan’s photojournalism work. I hadn’t really ever took notice to the career but after reading and viewing his work, it really sparked my interest. I can’t say I really knew what photojournalism was, but the idea of meaningful photography with a story intrigued me. I have to say I had a hard time closing the magazine.
I browsed some info on the net about photojournalism here and there but the whole concept of the career seemed to remain in a hazy state in my mind. I was interested to see if this career was one that would suit me well. I wondered if this career was one I could receive an education for at a college that appealed to me, or if it would be a compatible career for a mother and/or wife. I was curious as to what my next steps would be if I were to decide to pursue a career in photojournalism.
My hopes were to gain enough information about photojournalism so that I could really know whether the career suits my personality, needs and maybe wants. Hopefully this would help me in my decisions about classes for school right now, my decision at colleges and major, and for my decision of a career path to follow.
